Hi, I’m Valerio. I have been working in the photography industry since 2015. Before assisting, I was a retouching teacher at a photography school in London. I started as a studio assistant and then I moved on to first/second assistant as well as digital operator and retoucher. Originally from Italy, I’m now based in Stratford, East London.
Over the years I have worked with a number of photographers both in Italy and in the UK. I have spent most of my assisting time on location, around Europe and the Middle East. This has given me a deep understanding on how to travel with photographic equipment and how to quickly tackle challenging weather conditions when the team needs to be most efficient.
I have experience shooting in extreme cold / hot environments and also as a second shooter for events.
I’m highly proficient in post production and colour management. I’m accustomed to working fast under tight deadlines and to delivering files for either digital or print use.
Here’s an overview of my skills:

Having been on the communications and marketing side I have experience of the requirements and pressures communications, media and marketing teams have when commissioning work, which enables me to understand their needs and communicate calmly and clearly with them. I also apply these skills in non-scientific or medical disciplines and situations.

My name is Celso Marrero, and I am an experienced first assistant who has familiarity working on still life, fashion and lifestyle photoshoots. Either be in a studio with a large crew or in a remote location with extreme weather conditions, I'll always offer my skills to help ensure the best possible outcome with a smile and a positive attitude.
I am versatile and a quick learner, with a keen eye for details. I speak and write fluently in English, Spanish and Italian, and I can have conversations about any topic. In addition, I have good taste in music and a wide range of playlist.
European passport and drive licence allow me to drive and work in Europe and the UK.
When I am not assisting, I work as a freelance photographer. I typically shoot Still Life, Food and Drinks, Fashion and E-commerce photography. Here I acquired strong lighting skills and good photography knowledge.

Based in Woolwich, Greenwich, I am a professional photographer working closely with large and small businesses in London and further afield. I am here to help if you are planning a photo shoot – whether large or small - to promote your brand, service or product. It could be for the purpose of advertising, a catalogue or maybe for your company website.
I am always at hand dedicated to fulfil any brief you may have, whether it is lifestyle, advertising or corporate events photography.
Over the years I have developed a problem-solving approach, a very keen eye, and an excellent understanding of composition. This, coupled with an in-depth knowledge of post production, and the following process of design and artwork, ensures that I can exceed any expectations. I also always pride myself in delivering a finished product on schedule and on budget.
One of my big passions is my love of travel, and to share my experiences through my images. This does not only take me around the world – with many great new images as a result - but it is also a continuing source of inspiration which influences and feeds my enthusiasm for photography.
With many years experience of high-end retouching I am able to take control of the post production of my images if this is required. The advantage of this is that my style and quality control can be consistent throughout the whole process and I can deliver a truly finished product. Some examples of previous post production projects can be seen at my DigiSurgeon website.

Worked full time for advertising photographer Jonathan Oakes in Manchester before moving to London.
Now based in Highgate. I Have worked on shoots for magazines including Marie Clair, In Style, Harpers and Queen, Q , and the Times magazine.
Assisting photographer working full-time in the South-East and South-West, with family bases in many parts of UK.
I've been working as an assistant full-time for 3 years and prior to that I worked part-time for 2 years, including the last year of my degree at UWE. In the short time that I've been working I've gained experience with small teams on location to large sets in studio. I'm sharp-minded, adaptable, tech-smart and a quick learner, plus I'm incredibly calm and easy to get on with.
People I work regularly with: Mark Harrison, Amit Lennon, Joe Giacomet, Dave Pratt
Clients I've assisted on shoot for: Sainsburys, The Guardian, The Observer, The Times, Attitude Magazine, Adidas, Vespa, My Hermes
I’ve been working in the photographic industry since 2008. In that time I’ve held both freelance and full time positions as a photo assistant, digital operator, studio manager and production manager. I am a Phase One Certified Professional and equally experienced and capable with lighting and digital work.
Before moving to London in 2015 I was based between South Africa and Germany.
Over the years I have worked on projects across all genres from still life studio shoots to on location outdoor projects in difficult environments. I most enjoy advertising, portraiture, lifestyle, travel and documentary work. I’m can provide a list of references on request.
This is summary of the equipment I have most experience with:
Phase One (Certified Professional). Hasselblad. Canon. Nikon. Sony. Mamiya. Pentax
Capture One (Certified Professional). Lightroom. Photoshop. Bridge. Mac OS. Wacom graphics tablet
Strobe lighting including Profoto. Broncolor. Briese. Elinchrom…
Constant lighting including HMI. Tungsten. Kino flow. LED’s. Dedo light…
I can provide a digital capture location kit including: Macbook Pro Retina. Eizo Monitor. Workcase + Tripod. Hyperjuice Battery. Tether cables. Wacom graphics tablet.
I also have Camera Kit (Nikon D850 + lenses) available.
I believe that doing my job well allows a photographer to put more of their energy into making great pictures while knowing that the technical details and everything outside the viewfinder is taken care of - whether its lighting, digital workflow or logistics. My priority is making sure images are safe and up to standard but thats just where the job starts. I’ve hauled gear up snowy mountains in Switzerland, camping overnight to catch the sunrise. I’ve held back traffic in the hectic streets of Maputo and held onto photographers while they hang out of moving cars descending mountain passes on Mallorca. I’m happy making coffee for clients in studio or making sure everyones getting enough water when its 40C in the Namibian desert. I can handle a 12 x 12 scrim in Cape Town’s fierce south easterly wind or stay up through the night preparing images for a deadline…its all part of the job and with 10 years in the business you can trust me to do it well.
Please feel free to give me call if you'd like to discuss any projects or have any questions. Thanks
