Hi all, if you are reading this you may be interested in me assisting you on a shoot, which is great!

The first thing I should mention is that I am a full time photographer in my own right (www.lensi.co.uk) so you may be asking why I would assist another photographer on a shoot? Well, why not? I have colleagues that assist me often and it suits me to do the same for others during the times I do not have my own shoots or I am not teaching.

I come with a range of experience in setting up lighting, Lightroom, Photoshop, InDesign, photography, being a digital assistant and so on.

I have been full time since 2011 and part time for a few years before that, before giving my full time job up; as such I also have a range of equipment from lenses, boom arms, bodies, portable lighting, too much to mention here that can also be hired in addition to me assisting on shoot, where I will arrive with energy, initiative and knowledge!

I am based in both Birmingham and London (on account of having a house in both places) and regularly work in both cities. I am also willing to travel to others, with a car and driving licence.

Feel free to call, email, insta, facebook and all those other ways we now communicate (but please not texts, I do not always carry my work phone with me to receive texts, but calls are forwarded) if you would like to speak to me about your project.

I have worked with a few AOP photographers, so happy to forward names for references should you need.

Shiv Kanagaratnam

Hi there. I'm Shiv, a digital operator and lighting assistant based in London. I've been working within the photography industry since 2008 when I started out at Spring Studios.

Having worked as a digital operator for over 10 years I have extensive experience with Capture One, Phocus, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Bridge. I frequently work with Hasselblad, Phase One, Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm and Contax cameras. A complete Fuji GFX100 kit available from me too.

I often supply and use my own MacBook Pros, Eizo screens, work stations and cabling on Advertising shoots to provide multiple viewing points to aid client comfort and feedback and allow other creatives to watch what's happening in real time. This can be wireless or wired and I can tailor the package to your budget and location.

Although I no longer actively retouch, I have in the past retouched campaigns for Ikea and Subway as well as portraits of celebrities and various fashion editorials. On-set comping and rough retouching to show clients quick mock-ups isn’t a problem.

I have experience in creating lighting plans from references with flash or continuous lighting using Profoto, Elinchrom, Briese, Broncolor, Strobe, Tungsten, HMI, Kinoflo and LED in the studio or on location using generators.

Sam Reeves

I am a proficient Digital Operator, Retoucher and Assistant with more than ten years experience within the photography industry.

The first few years I focused on improving my assisting and digital operating skills. I then worked at Darkroom Digital as a full time Retoucher for five years, and for the last two and a half years have been getting back on set.

Whilst I enjoyed retouching full time, I missed the variation of being on set, so returned to being freelance.

At present I am regularly assisting still life, food and drinks, lifestyle, fashion and advertising Photographers in studios and on location in the UK, Europe and the U.S.

I am experienced with all of the main lighting systems, in particular, Profoto, Broncolor, HMI’s and Kinoflo.

If required, I have a full laptop tethering and retouching set up that I can bring with me. I am also able to create tailor made workflows as well as use any existing set ups. I also have a full clean driving license and a surprisingly spacious Honda Jazz!

I really enjoy the diversity of being on set and would love to have a chat with you to discuss any possible future projects that I might be able to assist you with.

Luke Archer

I'm an assistant based in Brighton, spending a lot of time in London! but also working across the country and occasionally internationally. I love the job and I'm always happy to pitch in wherever I’m needed to ensure a fun and stress-free shoot.

I assist a wide variety of photographers ( solo and repped) from across many photographic disciplines: editorial, portraiture, corporate, still life, food, interiors, commercial advertising, kids fashion and more.

I'm happy working in big studios such Big Sky, Alva, Premier Park etc or out in a muddy field. On smaller jobs, I'm often a one-man band taking care of both lighting and digi duties - bringing a spare SSD for backing up just in case your client is still ‘borrowing’ yours.

I'm familiar with current industry standards such Aputure Led, Profoto, Chronosync etc. I have a small selection of kit available to hire including Profoto b10's with modifers and some GFX lenses.

If you are looking to shoot in Brighton I can recommend locally based crew such as hair, make-up, props, videographers, and other assistants, as well as studios and locations.

Feel free to get in touch - I'm happy to answer any questions or provide references!

Nick Collins

Hi,
I'm a London based DigiTech and lighting tech with more than 12 years of experience working freelance in the photographic industry.

In my time as a photographic assistant, I have worked on shoots in just about every genre of photography imaginable, from portraiture, fashion and sport photography, all the way through to automotive, underwater and still life. I've even had the privilege of lighting the Queen for a royal portrait. Having such varied experiences in my career has put me in good stead to anticipate and find solutions to any problems that might come up on shoots.

Equipment wise, I'm happy using any brand of lighting, both flash and continuous. As a Digitech, I'm happy and well-versed in all the main camera systems, as well as Capture One, Phocus and Photoshop on both Mac and PC. I have even invented my own photographic equipment, including the Fotofortress Quick Release Tether Lock which is now available for sale in the UK, Europe, North America and Australia.

Other skills I have acquired over the years include professional rigging, from working as a scaffolder before starting my photography career. I'm also good with my hands and have the tools and the knowledge to build sets, coves and flats if needed. I have my BS7909 certificate in temporary power systems, an essential qualification if you want to work in lighting in the film and TV industry.

Finally, I also have a selection of DigiTech equipment available for hire, including a top spec Macbook Pro, a digi cart and 2 x 27 inch Eizo monitors which I'm happy to rent out for 20% less than the fees charged by the main rental houses.

Thanks so much and I look forward to working with you soon!

Tom Hanslien

Based in Woolwich, Greenwich, I am a professional photographer working closely with large and small businesses in London and further afield. I am here to help if you are planning a photo shoot – whether large or small - to promote your brand, service or product. It could be for the purpose of advertising, a catalogue or maybe for your company website.

I am always at hand dedicated to fulfil any brief you may have, whether it is lifestyle, advertising or corporate events photography.
Over the years I have developed a problem-solving approach, a very keen eye, and an excellent understanding of composition. This, coupled with an in-depth knowledge of post production, and the following process of design and artwork, ensures that I can exceed any expectations. I also always pride myself in delivering a finished product on schedule and on budget.

One of my big passions is my love of travel, and to share my experiences through my images. This does not only take me around the world – with many great new images as a result - but it is also a continuing source of inspiration which influences and feeds my enthusiasm for photography.

Post Production:

With many years experience of high-end retouching I am able to take control of the post production of my images if this is required. The advantage of this is that my style and quality control can be consistent throughout the whole process and I can deliver a truly finished product. Some examples of previous post production projects can be seen at my DigiSurgeon website.
