The BA (Hons) Photography degree at the University of Cumbria is designed to equip students with technical photographic skills, a keen and creative visual awareness, an understanding and experience of professional practice and critical thinking. Students are encouraged to be independent in thought and practice, creative in research and application, and ambitious both for themselves and those that they photograph.
The programme attends to three strands that interweave as the levels progress: photographic practice, professional skills and critical thinking. The synthesis of the three strands will ensure that students, upon graduation, have the ability to identify and succeed in their chosen career. Skills, knowledge and behaviour are developed throughout the course so that students become increasingly independent, ambitious and confident in what they can achieve.
Photography is more than the technical and the beautiful. At the University of Cumbria it is about engagement and connections, having a voice, making a change.
