AOP Student Awards 2017

Q. Can non-members enter the AOP Student Awards 2017?

A. Yes. Anyone studying a recognised National Qualification, approved by QCA (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority) or at an overseas educational institution can enter the Student Awards, but if you are an AOP Student Member, you get a discounted entry fee.

Q. How can I become a student member of the AOP and get a discount?

A. If you are studying photography at a UK educational institution, or abroad, you can be an AOP Student member. It is an online membership, with lots of benefits to help you get a foot in the door of the photographic industry. Membership costs only £25 per year, and is free for students studying on AOP Affiliated College Courses. Q. Can I become an AOP Student member if I am studying abroad?

A. Yes. AOP Student Membership costs £25 per year, to join please visit the Join Us section of the AOP website,  http://www.the-aop.org to sign up or call us on 0203 327 7207.

Q. When does the work to be entered have to have been produced?

A. The work must have been produced within the last two years, up to 7 April 2017. You cannot enter work that has previously been entered into the Student Awards.

Q. How many images can I enter?

A. As many entries as you want.

Q. Can I enter the same image twice?

A. No. There must be no duplication, within, and across categories.

Q. How much does it cost to enter?

A. AOP Student members get a discount price of £5.50 per entry, non-members pay the full price of £8.25 per entry. Why not join beforehand to take advantage of this offer, and also receive the full year of members' benefits? Membership costs only £25 for those on non-affiliated courses.

Q. What format do I need to enter in?

A. Entries may be submitted online through the Awards section of the AOP website (www.the-aop.org).

Images should be RGB in JPEG format and no larger than 1920 pixels wide by 1200 pixels high (the size of the judging display) - Your final file size must not exceed 3 megabytes.

You can name each image as you wish, but note that they will be re-named within the Student Awards system, to identify them uniquely as yours, whilst preserving anonymity during judging.

However, your original file names must contain only the letters A-Z and/or the numbers 0-9 and/or the underscore character ("_") plus the suffix ".jpg". Any other characters, including further dots or spaces, could result in your file being rejected during the upload process.

If you use Colour Management processes on your image files, you must use the sRGB colour space (Note: NOT AdobeRGB, as this does not display correctly in all web browsers).

Q. When is the deadline?

A. The final deadline is 5pm, Friday 7th April 2017

Q. When will I find out if I have been successful?

A. Notification of success will be sent to all entrants by the end of May 2017.

Q. When is the Awards night?

A. The date is to be confirmed but will be in June/July 2017, at theprintspace Gallery Hoxton

Q. When will I receive information about the Students Awards night?

A. Invites to the Student Awards night will be sent out via e-mail to successful entrants, colleges and mailing lists at least two weeks before the event.

Q. How many entries do you get for the Student Awards?

A. In excess of 1,000.

Q. How many images make it to the exhibition?

A. Approximately 40 to 60 images will be selected for the Student Awards Exhibition 2017. The selected images will be shown in an exhibition leading creative agencey Mother London in the summer of 2017.

Q. Where can I get more information on the Student Awards?

A. All the information you will need can be found on www.the-aop.org, just click on the Awards/Student pages.

Q. Will my images get published?

A. All images will be shown online on the Awards website as stills as well as be included in video compilation of entrants and winners. Additionally, some will be featured in the Image section of the AOP website and we usually have press coverage in the local and national papers. Successful images may also be used to promote AOP Student Membership in 2017/18.
