A Moment Either Side by Mark Leary

‘A Moment Either Side’ is a photographic exploration of where people retreat to for a moment of solitude, mindfulness and mental-wellbeing. Looking at the same location over a period of (up to) twelve hours - without moving either the camera or himself (capturing two identically framed images) - Mark has documented various locations at both its most peaceful and its most crowded. The general perception of solitude is that of an empty space – devoid of noise and distraction – but what if some people prefer ‘escaping’ surrounded by crowds; by commotion; by engagement. The work is meant to resonate with the viewer allowing themselves to choose which image they relate to the most.
