Ronnie and Reggie Kray’s Memorabilia
Dazeley

6th January 2015 until 2nd February 2015

This limited edition folio of 16 images was shot to record the memorabilia of Reggie and Ronnie Kray. The Kray twins were English gangsters who were foremost perpetrators of organized crime in London’s East End during the 1950s and '60s. They were arrested on 9 May 1968 and convicted in 1969 by the efforts of a squad of detectives led by Detective Superintendent Leonard "Nipper" Read, and were both sentenced to Life imprisonment.

The shots are of memorabilia, from the private collection of Andy Jones, of the Littledean Jail, and shows objects from their life of crime and their time at Her Majesty’s pleasure. The low level of weaponry is extraordinary by today’s standards. Reggie’s bayonet, knife and his artist’s paint set.  Ronnie’s cigarette case, comb, draught set, sawn off shotgun, pen and his infamous glasses.  Also in a letter from their mother to a friend discussing her sons, she mentions that they ‘are the most understanding and kindest of people one could meet they have never hurt anyone..’
