The course explores the convergence of commercial, fashion, and artistic image making across diverse channels of distribution. This variety is reflected in our programme of study, which is one of the most highly regarded in the UK. USW has a very long and notable history of delivering photography courses and we offer this exciting and innovative course in contemporary photography, through which you can develop your unique photographic voice and approach. The course enables students to practice photography as a language and a craft that transcends genres and engages with all areas and branches of image-making. Graduates will be leaders, collaborators, practitioners and innovators in the medium of photography.

Students will study and experiment with photography and video as the language of contemporary culture, central to print media, the Web, video, social media, installation, performance, exhibition and emerging technologies such as 3D imaging.

Emphasis is placed on the student’s personal growth through aesthetic and intellectual development with individual achievement in mind. This rigorous education enables students to develop a critical understanding of how photographic practices form and reflect our world. It features an immersive and hands-on perspective geared toward creativity, experimentation, and innovation. This exciting course prepares students to participate in the future of photography and visual communication.
