Generations by John Alexander

9 - 15 July 2020

Intrigued by the accounts of early explorers whose accounts inspire much of John Alexander's personal work, he travelled to Mongolia to begin an immersive journey to document the characters and culture that form the fabric of society.

This journey took John west to begin an immersive journey living with two contrasting Kazakh families. One whose head has gained notoriety as a horseman and hunter, the other an emerging figure, whom having lost his father now heads the herd.

Bristled by the Siberian winds that sweep these lands the chapters in her history form a narrative of change. A supreme leader, an empire fallen, occupation and emergence, hallmarks of a story that you might expect would lead to a forlorn future. Yet hands continue to turn the soil, grass continues to be grazed and as John hopes this project reflects, the flickering flame of pride continues to burn bright.
