Rida studios was home to our Business Day event last year.  We catch up with David Hardwick, to find out more about what Rida offers for image-makers looking for well equipt and fully catered stunning studios. Currently located in the east end David brings exciting news for a new studio opening out west later this year.

What do you offer photographers and image makers, over other studios?

That’s a really difficult question to answer as we have always tried to do things our own way and not focus too much on what other studios are up to. Having said that; whenever we do receive feedback it’s usually in regard to how our staff always offer a friendly, welcoming and relaxed environment, whilst still being professional and efficient. We have amassed so many years of combined industry experience and knowledge in our team at Rida, that it has now become a real rarity for us to say “no” to a request, however problematic it may seem.

From our head chef’s wonderfully creative and bespoke menus, our studio assistant’s attentiveness and experience and transparency when it comes to booking and billing; we make sure to go above and beyond. We want our clients leaving our studios knowing that they have been well looked after, and that we have done everything in our power to make sure that the shoot went as smoothly as possible.

Rida is very conscious of its sustainability, especially working within an industry where it isn’t always easy to be so environmentally friendly. Because of this we have limited all single use plastics where possible, making sure to stock our fridges with recyclable products only, introduced a composting system for our kitchen and have even introduced free to use electric vehicle charging points. We have also always worked closely with local, like minded independent businesses. Two of which are currently supplying our fully licensed bar with small batch premium gin, and a good selection of interesting craft beer.

Combining all of that with the beautiful, practical and high-quality studios is what we think sets us apart from the rest.

What is the most technically challenging shoot you have had in the studios?

We have had some very challenging shoots, but we haven’t had one stump us yet! Over the past ten years, we have transformed our studios into many things including; supermarkets, swimming pools, forests, beaches, aeroplane interiors and even had our talented set build team hand paint a formula 1 racetrack directly onto the cove. Every job comes with a fresh set of challenges, but we are fortunate to work with some of the best lighting and equipment minds at Pixipixel, who are always happy to help work through those extra tricky lighting and electrical problems.

Some of the more challenging issues arise during the bookings process. We are lucky to have an amazing bookings manager who makes sure to iron out any potentially technically challenging issues with our relevant teams, whether that be our experienced set builders or our friends down at Pixipixel. We’ve got it covered from every angle, before you set foot through our doors.

Why is it important for you to be an associate member of the AOP?

When it comes to the services that we provide, we are always striving for perfection. We believe that the AOP and their vast network, can connect Rida with other like-minded individuals within the industry. We believe that the principles that the AOP hold are similar to our own and being affiliated with an organisation who upholds values such as equality, diversity and sustainability is very important to us.

What’s next for Rida?

We have a few exciting things in the pipeline for this year that we can’t wait to share with everybody. One of them being that we are currently building a very large studio complex in West London due to be opening mid 2020.

Since starting our in-house catering last year, Rida Kitchen, headed by, Chef, Tim O’Brien, has been a great success. Because of this we are starting to cater offsite, whether that be on location, in other studios or even in a muddy field in Hampshire, we have got you covered. Our kitchen can provide set menus, delicious ramen pots or even live cook a bespoke menu tailored to each teams’ specific dietary requirements and tastes.

Be sure to watch this space!
