EXHIBITION: Celebrating Centenarians
30 October 2019
Olympus marks its 100th birthday this month and to celebrate they have joined with individuals also celebrating this momentous landmark with a unique portrait project. Commissioning a group of Olympus photographers to take portraits of centenarians born in 1918 and 1919, the results are being showcased in a celebratory book and accompanying exhibition. AOP Member and Olympus Photographer Marcus Clackson, shares some of his images from the project below.
" From the 18 people I have photographed so far they include Dunkirk veterans, WW2 Wrens, a 100 year old climate protestor, a Polish prisoner of War who joined the RAF and flew spitfires over London in the Blitz, a famous classical composer, a 101year old man who trains at the gym most mornings and an English actress from Radio 4’s The Archers to name a few…..
To meet these wonderful people was inspiring and humbling. Their life stories are truly amazing and I can only imagine how much they all gave to their country and community supporting each other throughout the hardship of World War in defence of our freedom. I hope their stories live on and resonate to what is possible if people come together for a brighter future.” Marcus Clackson
