Photographer Overview

My photographic practice began as a young boy, when I discovered my dad’s Nikon 35mm film camera and bag of lenses. I continued to shoot film during my student years at the United States Naval Academy (class of 2000), where I had my first photojournalistic work published, reporting on micro-economies in Vietnam.

From 2000–2008, I worked on both sides of the camera, as a model, actor, screenwriter, and producer (in that order) in Los Angeles. That experience taught me much about the elusive phenomenon of the “unexpected” that results in timeless, beautiful images.

From 2008, I worked in both commercial real estate and academic publishing as a branding and marketing pro. Much of my work during this time was architectural, both buildings and books.

In 2018, I began work on a social documentary covering autism and epilepsy, for which I was long-listed for an award (Wellcome Photography Prize 2019) and gave a speech at the Photojournalism Hub in London discussing my project.

In 2019, I published numerous images and interviews online for academic publishers in my role as Managing Editor of the Logos Academic Blog. This work continues today.

In early 2020, I was commissioned by the global brand Gratz Pilates to create a series of interviews and photoshoots with VIP Pilates celebrities in the UK and EU. I hold the title of European Correspondent for Gratz Pilates, which is the foremost manufacturer of Joe Pilates’s true-to-design apparatuses. This work is ongoing.

My primary current interest is the human figure in motion and capturing true emotion. I’ve been a lifelong athlete, and even won some awards along the way (CA State Champs, Men’s Volleyball 1995; North England Open Water Swimming Age Group Champion 2017), so I understand the importance of dedication, resilience, and commitment. These are the elements of human experience I seek to capture with my camera in every project.
