Photographer Overview

I began taking photographs when I was in Paris aged sixteen on a school trip through Europe, fascinated seeing an alternative view of life far removed from that of my home of Sheffield in South Yorkshire.

I've shot loads of travel photographs since those schooldays and now tend to work in the fields of advertising, especially product and food photography, I also shoot portraits and a wide range of editorial commissions.

I spent a number of years in the educational sector, being the senior lecturer for photography at Granville College of F.E. for several years in the 80's. Following this I ran a computer bureau service for slide presentations when they were in vogue and then managed digital studios in Hull before returning to Sheffield where I designed a purpose built digital photographic studio, which opened in 2000.

A while ago, I was asked to shoot for a recipe book for Richard Smith, a leading Sheffield chef, entitled "Thyme after Thyme". Following the success of this book I've photographed food for a whole load of chefs up and down the country. Book titles include "The Magpie Cafe" shot in Whitby for Ian Robson, "A Perfect Balance" for Andrew and Janet Coghlan, and Sam Stern's "Student Cookbook" for Walker Books of London.

I'm a regular supplier of food photography for editorial and website use to a number of clients and I contribute on a regular basis to "The Pudding Ladies" cafes websites "Millhouses Park cafe" and "Rivelin Park Cafe".

I've not lost my enthusiasm for photography in all these years, and now I find the challenge of creating images just as rewarding as I did in my college days at Blackpool College of Art in the 60's.
