AOP Photographers Awards 2008

Now in their 25th year, the Association of Photographers launched these Awards in 1983. They are now regarded as THE photographic Awards within the industry and being selected for entry into the Awards book and the accompanying exhibition is considered one of the highest accolades for professional photographers.

The 2008 Awards has undergone several changes resulting in what has become the most exciting and competitive Awards yet. This year’s entrants had the opportunity to enter eighteen different categories across commissioned and personal work, and for the first time ever, had the chance to become the AOP Photographer of the Year.

Over 4,000 images were submitted for the 2008 Awards so it was a difficult task for our 20 highly respected judges to select the final 316 images that you can see here. Even more difficult was the decision over who would be awarded the highly prestigious Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards, and the new Photographer of the Year Award, as the judges understood how precious these are to the few photographers who receive them.

This year’s exhibition is comprised of the best personal and commissioned images produced over the last eighteen months. The quality of the images reflects the growing creativity and diversity of the AOP membership and the images you see here represent the work of 82 international photographers.

The AOP Awards are a celebration of photography and those who have chosen a professional career in this industry. The dedication and talent of all the photographers represented in the 2008 Awards is inspiring.
