Q. Who can enter the AOP Photography Award?

Photographer members can enter all categories apart from assistants

Assistant members can enter assistant category and open.

the Open award is open to everybody

Q. How can I become a Member of the AOP?

A.–Only Professional photographers can become full members of the AOP, allowing them to enter the professional categories in the awards.

Photography assistants may become assistant members

Anyone may become an Open member, giving them access to the private forum, member discounts, and other benefits

Q. When do I have to submit my application for Membership to the AOP in order to be able to enter the professional categories AOP Photography Awards 2014?

A. It depends on type of membership etc. So, to allow for applications to be processed and, if successful, to give entrants sufficient time to submit their images before the deadline, please call the office to find out more. 

Q. When does the work to be entered need to have been produced?

A. All elements of the work submitted must have been originated by the entrant after 31st May 2013.

Q. How many entries can I submit?

A. There is no limit on the number of entries per person.

Q. Can I enter the same image twice?

A. No, you cannot enter the same image into more than one category.

Q. How can I submit my entries?

A. Submit entries online only - http://entries.the-awards.com.

Q. When is the deadline?

A. Early Bird online entries must be submitted by 6pm 21st September 2014 Regular online entries are those submitted from 6pm 121st September 2014 to 6pm 10th October 2014.

Q. How much does it cost to enter?

A. For information on this year's prices please refer to the Terms & Conditions.

Q. I'm not sure which category to enter my image. Are you able to advise?

A. No, the AOP are unable to advise which category to enter your images. Your choice of category will be respected; we will assume that an image is entered into a particular category because that is the context you wish it to be viewed in.

Q. Who are the judges?

Q. How many entries do you get for the Photography Awards?

A. Last year we had approximately 3000 entries over all.

Q. How many images make it to the exhibition?

A. Up to 100 images will be selected for the AOP Photography Awards 2014 Book and Exhibition.

Q. How will the selected entries in the Moving Image category be presented in the book & on the website?

A. The selected entries in this category will be shown as selected still images in the Book and as moving images in their entirety on the website.

Technical

Q. How do I submit my entries?

A. Entries should be submitted online. First, simply register to enter by following the online instructions. When registered, follow the instructions to submit your images. When you have finished, you need to submit the entry by paying for it. You must include a current email address, as all further communications from the AOP will be made via email. For full details see the Terms & Conditions of Entry. Images submitted should be RGB in JPEG format and no larger than 1920 pixels wide by 1200 pixels high. Your final file size must not exceed 3 megabytes.

Q. If I am unable to enter online, what should I do?

A. If you are having problems entering please contact the AOP by either calling Flo Lewis-George (Direct: 0203 327 7202) or emailing awards@aophoto.co.uk

Q. How and in what format should I submit a Moving Image entry?

A. Submit entries online only - http://entries.the-awards.com. A thumbnail image of your entry must be uploaded, as for still entries. Then name your Moving Image file with your entry reference and upload that file to: http://www.the-aop.org/awards/photography-awards-expo/moving-image 

Note that only the following format will be accepted for judging:

  • H.264 encoded MP4 files
  • Resolution: 1280 (width) x 720 (Height) (HD)
  • Maximum File size: 5GB
  • Maximum length: 5 minutes. If your submission is successful, you may be required to submit an additional shorter edit of the winning entry, for screening during the presentation.

Please Note - Quicktime .MOV, Flash .SWF and Windows WMV files will not be accepted, nor will .OGG encoding.

Q. Is there a limit to the number of entries I can submit in any one category?

A. No, there is no restriction on the number of entries you can submit in any one category.

Q. How many images constitute a series?

A. In all categories a series consists of 3 - 4 related images; apart from the Project category, which consists of 5-8 related images.

Q. How should I name my entries?

A. Entrants may name images, however, please note that they will be re-named within the AOP system, for unique and anonymous identification purposes.

File names must only contain letters (upper or lower case, and/or numbers (0-9), and/or underscore character plus the suffix .jpg. Any other characters including further dots, hyphens or spaces could result in your file being rejected during the upload process.
